Nandi Hills

Nandi Hills ⛰️

When people live in Bangalore or near Bangalore or even when they visit the city, you are likely to hear them talking about Nandi Hills.

Others refer to it as a magical sunrise place whereas some refer to it as a relaxing weekend destination.

I will put that in a plain, easy way, just as I would to a close friend who is going out on a little trip.

Nandi Hills is not a tourist destination only. It is a place that gradually builds up on you, the cool air, the expansive landscapes, the empty roads and the sense of relaxation that is hard to come by in the bustling urban environment.

Where Is Nandi Hills Located?

Nandi Hills is just 60 kms away at Bangalore, in the Chikkaballapur district, Karnataka. Its closeness to the city has made many people use it in an excursion or weekend outing.

The fun is itself the motivation. The farther you get away from the traffic and buildings the greener and quieter are the roads.

I do recollect my visit there firstly of all because the air began to feel cool, then I knew we were near.

Why Is Nandi Hills So Popular?

Nandi Hills is a nice hill station among many others found in India. A large portion of this is due to its view of the sunrise.

There are people who rise so early in the morning as early as 3 or 4 am just to be able to reach the top of the hill before the sun comes.

As the sun slowly rises, the sky is colored, and it is soft orange, pink and gold. The clouds in the lower sky resemble a white blanket.

There, you are drinking hot tea, and you are no longer concerned with work-related stress, phone calls and everyday concerns.

  • It is close to Bangalore
  • The weather is pleasant most of the year
  • It has history, nature, and adventure in one place

A Glimpse Into History:

It is not only mountains and clean air in Nandi Hills. It is also historically significant. It used to be a summer resort of Tipu Sultan, the legendary Mysore ruler.

Still, one can visit such places as the Drop of Tipu, a steep cliff, but with a dramatic legend associated with it.

It sends chills every time you are up there and see down there not only due to the height, but also due to the history attached to the place.

It is also home to the old fort wall and some temples which are reminders that centuries have passed by in this place.

Best Time to Visit Nandi Hills:

The best thing about Nandi Hills is that you can visit it almost any time of the year.

  • September to February: This is the most pleasant time. The views are clear.
  • March to May: Slightly hot, but still beautiful morning.
  • June to August: Monsoon season brings green and mist. The roads can be slippery, but the hill looks very fresh.

This is a must-do. Most of the visitors claim that it is the best sunrise they have ever witnessed. I am personally glad it is better to be able to get up early once during your lifetime.

It has walking tracks where one can leisurely go round. Walking in the morning is refreshing, and you hear birds singing near you.

Visit the Temples:

The Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple is on the edges of the hills and it is serene and beautiful. The serene environment is worth the experience even when you are not a very religious person.
