The winter trekking is a magical one. The world becomes quieter, the air becomes crisp and landscapes are totally different with any other season.

Even though most individuals would rather remain at home when the weather is cold, the winter provides the most beautiful sites that nature can present.

I would like to list some of the most beautiful winter walks in the world, in this article, places that impressed me, and places that are yet to be fulfilled in my dream list.

There is nothing to be worried about even when you are novel to trekking. I will make it as simple and easy to understand as possible.

Let’s start our snowy journey!

1. Everest Base Camp (Nepal):

Everest Base Camp is known to all, but it is even better in winter.

The people are smaller, the skies are bluer, and the mountains stand out on the deep blue sky.

It is claimed by many trekkers that winter is the most beautiful season to see the mountain.

It can be difficult in relation to the cold, but with proper preparation, it will be something that you will not forget.

I also recall an experience with a trekker that he was able to see the sunrise make the peaks turn golden, it felt like he was in a movie.

2. Chadar Trek (India):

It is a very special trek in the world since you traverse over a frozen river. Yes, the whole Zanskar River becomes a square of ice in the winter, and the trekkers walk on it.

The temperatures may be really low, still, the beauty of the ice, frozen falls and the silence of the valley make it seem like another planet.

Chadar Trek is by no means a simple trek, however it is one of the most legendary winter treks worldwide.

3. Tour du Mont Blanc (France–Italy–Switzerland):

Mont Blanc is lovely during the whole year, but in winter, it is even more lovely. It also covers France, Italy and Switzerland which make it among the most ideal cross country trekking journeys.

The villages under snow resemble postcard landscapes, and Alps are high like white elephants.

The route is marked and much portions are user-friendly even in winter but with the necessary equipment.

This hike will take your heart away in case you are a fan of the European landscape.

4. Dolomites Winter Trek (Italy):

The Dolomites resemble the dramatic walls, which grow out of the snow. They are further spectacular during winter.

There are numerous trails in the region, some of them being easy and some being difficult, thus trekkers will be able to select which ones to follow considering their experience.

A friend of mine went to Dolomites last winter and mentioned to me that the sunsets appeared pink in the mountains. Days after days I saw that picture.

5. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania):

The highest mountain in Africa is Mount Kilimanjaro and in fact winter (December to February) is one of the best months to go trekking in Africa. Although the top is snowy, the rest of the surroundings are pleasant.

It is an amazing adventure during winter as there is clear weather, stable conditions and beautiful views of the glaciers.

In case you prefer a winter hike but do not want to be too cold during the trip, you can choose Kilimanjaro.

6. Annapurna Base Camp (Nepal):

The mountains are gigantic and near, and seem to be keeping a watch over you.

The trails are not difficult and fit beginners can also walk the route. It is a pleasant winter walk with tea houses in between to warm the body and shelter.

7. Patagonia Winter Treks (Chile & Argentina):

Patagonia is known to have wild scenery- peaks are sharp, glaciers are blue and the wind is endless.

The winter season is more silent and cold here but the beauty is incomparable.

Two of the most common winter treks destinations are Torres del Paine National Park and Los Glaciates National Park.

Patagonia is a dream because of the deep blue color of the ice, the silent valleys, and the dramatic skyscrapers.

8. Laugavegur Winter Trek (Iceland):

Iceland is the destination of you are seeking something new. Winter to us is snow fields and frozen lakes and even the Northern lights.

One of the most famous trails is the Laugavegur Trek that runs through mountain ranges, hot springs, and white scenery.

All you have to do is to imagine walking in the snow and spending the evening in a natural hot spring, it is something a lot of people cannot forget.

9. Snowman Trek (Bhutan):

The Snowman Trek is a deceptively challenging trek in the globe, yet, it is as well one of the most scenic.

The winter brings in a new element of magic with fresh snow, undisturbed valleys and serene monasteries in the mountains.

It is quite long and difficult, and it is not an easy way to go, but the views are simply worth it.

10. Canadian Rockies Winter Trek (Canada):

The snow period that happens between December and March transforms the Canadian Rockies into a winter wonderland.

The frozen lakes such as Lake Louise and the Moraine Lake appear to be snow-covered glass.

The tracks provide scenic forest hikes, mountain scenery, and snowy sceneries that seem like right out of a fantasy novel.

Even the common day increases here can be so satisfying.
